When I bought this ugly old dresser…

I planned on transforming into something like this…
But then I saw this picture on Pinterest and the plan changed.
After a good wash down I painted the body and drawers with a good primer. I prefer Zissner Peel Stop… it has great adhesion when painting furniture.
Then I gave the whole thing a couple of coats of black. The black I used was from a gallon of mistinted can of paint I got a while back for $8. It was a worthwhile purchase! I have used it a ton.
Two coats of black paint, and I could get to the fun stuff. I used a little bottle of Martha Stewart Metallic Silver I got at Michael’s (my favourite store!) and a simple little paint brush to jazz it up a little.
I did one more coat of black on the top of the drawers to clean up the parts where I didn’t colour in the lines very well. I was pretty happy with the look of the drawers, but I knew I needed to really step it up with the hardwared to get the look I was shooting for.
So off to Lowe’s we went. I wanted something that would not only suit the look but cover the existing holes. I mean, I could have filled them and painted them again, but seriously, who wants to do that! So these little beauties were perfect.
The plate on the bottom covered the existing holes and it gave the dresser the industrial look I was hoping for. We needed to buy extra nuts, so we had one on the inside and one on the outside to secure it. I will admit that it was my resident handyman, Tim, that made sure I knew that… if it weren’t for him the handles would have just slid right through the holes!
And voila… here is the finished product… an industrial dresser fit for a teenage boy!
