Put those old maps to good use, make a paper flower! zinniahouseramblings.com

In a few short weeks, my baby boy will become someone’s husband!  That is crazy, but we are so excited to welcome Jess into our family.

TJ and Jess are what many refer to as hipsters… the modern day hippy!  The just finished fixing up an old RV to live in and hope to have a ‘tiny house’ soon.  You can check out their fun journey here…http://www.oursimplepath.ca/

They will wed on July 2 at an outdoor wedding to take place at my parent’s home.  And we are doing all the decorating.  Their hipster style has us making paper flowers out of maps.  I actually need to multitask so this is what I do when I am relaxing in front of the tv at night.  Do you want to learn how to make one???

Turn an old atlas into some sweet paper flowers. zinniahouseramblings.com

What you need to start:

old atlas (which are abundant since no one uses them anymore!)

scissors

glue gun

glue tape (optional)

beads (optional)

I started with a pattern I got from  a wonderful crafter/blogger Lia Griffiths, where you can get an abundance of patterns for a small monthly fee.  I only used the two largest pattern pieces for this flower, as I found adding in the rest just took too long for what I was doing.

Here are the two pieces I used to create the flowers. zinniahouseramblings.com

It’s hard  to tell in the picture but these are two different sized.  I used 2 bigger ones and 3 smaller ones for each flower.

I found this glue tape at the dollar store and thought I would give it a try.

This glue tape is my new favourite crafting tool. zinniahouseramblings.com

I works kind of like a ‘white out’ strip.  As you roll it along the glue comes off the tape and sticks to the paper.  It has become my new favourite crafting tool!

Anyway, I slid that little puppy over one corner of each petal…

Then I wrapped them around a marker to glue the sides of petals together.

Once I had 2 big pieces and 3 smaller pieces finished I started putting them together.  I found I needed the trusty glue gun here… a dab of glue in the centre of one of the large pieces and then offset the petals and put the other large one on.

Do the same with the 3 smaller pieces.  I also used the end of the marker to hold them down until they were secure.

It wasn’t unusual for one of the petals to unfurl… I just used a drop of hot glue to put it back together.  Some I just left because I like how they looked.

Finally I added a bead or three to the centre with the glue gun.

Voila… a sweet little paper flower out of those scrap maps you don’t ever use any more!  I can’t wait to see what they look like at the wedding!
